MARINE FITNESS TESTS:- Did the test again at Monday Training and some impressive scores for max situps in 60secs and max pushups in 60 sec.
RUBY once again was phenonenal:- 97 situps and 99 pushups = 196
Recruit Alistair did something like 140, Doli 120 or so - Even Ming did 50 and 50 for a total of 100! - no practice either.
We'll get scores from the 9 who did the test via email, or you can add them below .
Remember, as each person's version of the situps etc differs, these are only a benchmark for yourself, to be compared in a month or so to monitor your fitness.
Everybody had rubbery arms afterwards, buggering up a brilliant training session, that's why we don't do this every night.
See Mud entry #13) 20 February 2007 07:53 PM NEW RECORD:- New recruit RUBY KAADAN has smashed Champ GARY SANDERSON's 120 Fitness score. (60 pushups in 60 secs and 60 situps in 60 seconds)
RUBY did 65 pushups and 67 situps (in 60+60secs) for a total of 132 !
Merciless:- I got 33 and 36 for a 69 - middling for a fat bastard (without ANY preparation).
These records were both done at age 40, and at the start of preseason, and probably by very serious fitness nuts. I've tried this torture on younger blokes and the best who had been in the gym all summer got

Anthony Godfrey:- Hope things went well tonight. I sat out most of the training session because I was still tight from Monday night. Felt the hammy with the second touch of the ball and chose to back off before I caused some serious damage. Great effort by NOBs to let a few old blokes join in. It's amazing how big these guys are. Must be the genetically modified food. It was interesting watching the drills. A bit different from the kick to kick and circle work that dominated my days as a footballer. I see you next Monday at Arden St. Hopefully we'll get enough guys [at least a team's worth] next training session.

BRUNSWICK JUNIOR F.C:- Given the demographic of your players you may have some with U10 or COLTS sons. From the Brunswick Auskick Group, there are 45 parents, so they have received one of these flyers as well. We want to see if we can get the U10 and COLTS going. I have a student form Simmonds College who says he has 15 players for COLTS, so it would be greater to get this off the ground. If you could distribute to your players?
Our home games at Gillon are to be shared with Bulleen Park, so we should be able to plan around Super Rules. Spoke To Sedat and he said he was supportive of your Club at Gillon.

Costs for Ground / Pavilion 20:- 8 3 Choices *
ALLARD (Nth Bruns) - half share = $1460 (maybe $949) - N.Bruns to cover that with our subs if we join with them.
GILLON (NOBs at BrunsVFA) - half share = $2393 (might get a 10 or 20% discount). Even joining with NOBs might see our share in the 2K range...
WESTERN (RoyalPkNth) - half share $2033 PLUS training $1.10 per player per session (another $600?) - might yet get a considerable discount for only 5 games.
Engineering are looking at what wear we would cause.
- or Melb CC sessional rate of $255 per Sunday, not sure about pavilion.
--
Big expenses compared to what we've paid in the past (approx $900) - Big decisions...

Anthony G:- Great work if you can pull this one off Ming. I was almost right with the ground placements but we rarely played at Ryder and Ransford. We'll have to work out a strategy for kicking into the wind if we play at Western Oval, almost as legendary as the place in Footscray. The change sheds use to be situated between the three ovals and you would have a bit of a run over to the Western Oval if you played there. I noticed recently that the change sheds have been replaced [there goes another childhood memory]so what has been built in its place. The communal showers in the old sheds bring back many memories of the fun and games in more innocent times. Given the early starts it was great that a home game was guaranteed to end with a hot shower and,on occasions, a short trip to watch the Blues play at Princes Park. I'm still without permanent transport but I hope to pick up the new car next Thursday. I'm still keeping my fitness regime at a level above slow-medium. I'll see you and the rest of the boys at Arden Street on 16/02/10

The Plot Thickens:- OK, North Brunswick and North Old Boys both great possibilities.
I finally got though to Ruby, and as coach he wants the best ground possible (do we need to list the reasons?) - Got to agree there!
I mentioned to Razor after our meeting that half allocation in Melb City Council, (5 Home games and one night training will cost us about $900, and for 45 members this is $20 per person - hardly worth sneezing about? (I might have underestimated this - with pavilion hire it might total to about $2000, or about $40 per member, more to follow)
So I finally got Cindy at Melbourne CC on the phone and despite their opening gambit of "All Our Grounds Are Completely Full", I got across the fact that we only want 5 Sundays, and Over-40s and Over47s don't actually power around the ground churning up the surface, and we'd be happy to work around any FIDA, Womens or Soccer tenants.
Seems I used the right catch-phrase, as Melb CC have community DIVERSITY as one of their GOALS, and they don't have any Old Codgers under their banner yet (Melb Supers is at Albert Park and that's controlled Parks Victoria) so Cindy is going to ask further up the chain, and even suggested we could get another 20% discount for being seniors. Western Oval isn't used for Footy, Melb Uni Lacrosse use it on Saturdays and we would be further out of the way of Womens, FIDA footy and Sunday Soccer. In my snooping I found Royal Park and would you believe Brunswick District CCs merged a few years back, and they drink at the Lomond in East Bruns. Have the same song too!
In a Nut-shell: for $20 each we can join up with one of the clubs in Brunswick AND to avoid clashes we can play some our games in Royal Park, or maybe all of them!

Wilba:- Ming, are you sure Western is the middle ground? I always thought the two near the train line were Ryder and Rainsford and the back one McCalister....then Western was the one on the right in the photo, nearest the tram track and golf course.

Anthony G:- The ovals here are great. Played on them in my junior days. Western Oval is the ground on the right. The middle is Ryder. McAlister is closest to the railway line. Rainsford is the oval at the back. McAlister is where I played my junior footy.

Anthony G:- I've had some contact with NOBs as a result of my son's ex-footy team. Played against NOBs up at St Patricks in Ballarat where the ground and facilities are magnificent. The old Brunswick footy ground certainly has plenty of history but the facilities were run down. I'm not sure about now as this was a couple of seasons ago. D1 in the VAFA this season with 1s, 2s, 3s and a club 18[?]. A club which wants to progress through the grades. For a first contact this is excellent.

All coming to a head:- Ruby wants the best surface we can get - we shouldn't have to worry about injuries due to tufty hard surfaces. North's offer is great, but the ground very poor, NOBs is better but they are not so familiar with us. If we get the chance at Western Oval in Royal Park, it would be great to have in our back pocket whichever way we decide, or do we go there in our own right?
I'll see if I can find out more by Monday night, but Moreland Council want us to put in a formal application by Wednesday for Gillon (NOBS) as I was a little vague about which ground we were after.
Both North Brunswick and NOBs have put in for Sundays to accommodate us, but Trevor (NOBs pres) needs a proposal in writing, as they are not yet fully convinced about swallowing us. North will jump at it to tie up the year under the Moreland Sports Club banner.
All the liquor, food rego, insurance and incorporation stuff need to be ironed out asap if we go on our own.

Well What do I know?:- Results from the Garage Sale. almost $700.
Did not sell a single Chair or Table!!! Did not sell the planters or Gym equip!!
Sold about $15 worth of plates and cutlery! (just made two typos trying to spell cutlery, there I go again, thrice... came out cultery - is that freudian?)
What got sold was the 2 Glass Cabinets, the Stage, the Stainless Bench, Beer Drip Trays, old Senior Football and Senior Cricket Lockers, Filing Cabinets, Radio and Speakers, broken Pool Table, the long Change Room Bench-seats. That's why I'm not in marketing.
None of our cooking appliances nor high toadstool bar-tables nor bar fridge was offered (maybe another day) because I don't know what we might need yet.
- Ming
PS: I could have sold North Brunswick's Juke Box two hundred and twenty seven times!
