R9 Report:- Gents, Last game for 2010 on Sunday @ Spotswood Oval saw a gallant but undermanned Brunswick Mudlarks side go down by 10 goals.
Only Lightening Ben and I graced the field from the “Old NOBS” with Scotty & PK injured, Holmberg doing his Tax(?!) and Mileto gone missing.
The overwhelming revelation from the day was the Prez himself – Trevor Ludeman – who was unstoppable in the ruck and around the ground. “The Boy can (still) Play”
Trev won every knock out & marked everything that came his way. With recent interest expressed by Conno and Hally for next year we could produce an All Australian goal to goal line!!
Throw in Turners and Gus and watch Fog make a comeback!! There is still a spot for you Jex.
As for me – my right side has held up very well to my 7 games. However my left shoulder, left knee, 2 knuckles on my left hand and (after Sunday) left calf don’t feel that well.
Bring on 2011. Domenic Perrone

Jex:- Well done Domenico. Not bad for a gent who was better with the round ball. Your fitness and athleticism must be admired. Is there a weight limit in your team?
I would enjoy watching you shuffle around the ground and if I don’t have footy commitments with my boys then I may join you next year.
Not surprising that T. Ludeman was a standout. He was a star in our Clubbies team. But imagine if Carroll and Turnbull played.

Masters 1 over 2 years:- We have an unbalanced home/away factor when we play each side only once in a season, eg carrum is about a 10 goal swing for your percentage whether playing home or away.
So taking the 2 full seasons of 2009 and 2010, here's the ladder with average scores per game.
Congratulations to Footscray for 2 outstanding seasons.
Beacy and Essendon each finished top in 2009 and 2010.
Footscray won the 2009 challenge, but Essendon wont play it this year.
If the M1 challenge were to be played this year, and if Footscray were to outscore Essendon by about 5 goals, they would catch up their percentage.
The Masters2/3 Challenge is going ahead at Mordialloc at 10:45, as Northern and Peninsula Supers are playing at 12:45. But Peninsula Masters need to catch up more than 140 points to draw level on percentage.

JIBBING COWBOYS IMPROVE:- Well, we've had a dirty year, with injuries and shuntings etc.
But a great indication of the real order is not that we finished bottom on percentage, for if the rules were followed, we would have got the average of the scores from the Hop-a-long Forfeiting Cowboys, who now pass us because they jibbed coming all the way to City Central. But as we all knew, they are better when they don't play.
If the calculation were done (on an average score of about 15 goals to 5) - we end up about 47% where Jibbers don't change much from 37% - Merciless

Ming:- We aint been going well recently, so them South-bound Cowboys might have actually won with the even-up rule.
Let's see - at home their percentage is about 74%, away it's about 8%
Mmm, maybe the even-up rule wont help their blokes who are willing to travel.

Stoney:- Hey Ming - Apart from yourself, is this the oldest evidence of our club?
Ming: Good find Stoney, I had a google and found this one from 1913 on Ebay.
Poncey looking Jumpers sez Ol Merciless.
(Brunswick first wore blue and red, and were known as the Brunswick Potters, but I cannot find when they actually changed to black and white. I know they had horizontal black & white stripes (a la Geelong) in 1910)
Here's a pic of 1905 - some vertical and some horizontal stripes!
1907? - here's the Wiki on Joe Johnston who captained Brunswick 1907-1911?,
first aboriginal captain of a VFL football team (Fitz)
wearing a white Y on black???

1909? - here's one with Joe Johnston wearing the horizontal striped TURTLE NECK!!!
but maybe it's more like 1907 (looking at the trainers) if the following is 1910.
WEARING CAPS!In those days Metropolitan Junior Football League meant you got extra players when playing a Senior team, for many games were by invitation, not fixtured.
19?? Lastly, here's the Brunny lads wearing almost ALL the previous gurnseys. WAR WAS HARSH!
HEY! That's our clubrooms!
Must have been after 1926 when they built the stand.

Ming:- That is definitely a possibility. Very Interesting.
Before we jump at it, the question of the Brunswick Sports Club should be mentioned. We may have an "overall-club" type different name; We may wish to (slightly) modify the jumpers to reflect that;
We may be interested in an "alternate" jumper to avoid clashes (maybe permanent and the old jumper could be the alternate)
Bean-counter sez: It would be a very generous sponsorship, even if such a sponsorship doesn't actually help our club in the present because we already have some jumpers.

Stoney:- If it is the case that our jumpers date back to 1910, that would explain the smell. Could be the year for a Centenary Medal, with Mad Mick's mug on the gong. Cheaper than a statue.

Ben Counter "Bender":- I'm saying Yes, it sounds like a goer. I did mention "in the present"... To make sure the advertising on the jumpers gets full exposure, we'd probably not be able to sell them to our players in the first year, because on current form, half the side might be unavailable on any particular week. But we can be flexible.
We once had an offer from a Pokies Joint to give us a set of jumpers, turns out they'd put a SaleOfThe Century inflated price on them and claim advertising on tax and make a profit out of the government on the deal - the shonks. And we run around advertising these home-wreckers for no folding in the hand.

Merciless:- Being Brunswick men of the world, we were wary of receiving a "favour" from the underbelly of our society.

What happens about Forfeit?:- From the 2010 League Rules - Policy and Procedure
Resolution re Forfeits
That any Club who forfeits a game is duty bound to pay a levy of $250.00 per game.
The levy is to be paid before the next scheduled game for that Club.
Where the levy remains unpaid and the club does take the field, the four points for that game will be awarded to the opposition, and the club will be liable for further penalty.
The levy will apply for each game in which a club forfeits.
The offending Club will be reviewed by the Board and recommendations made at that point.
If a club forfeits in two rounds during a season, they will be suspended from the competition for that season, and will need to re-apply to the League for admission in any ensuing season.
Where the offending club amalgamates with another club in the competition, any outstanding levy incurred will become the liability of the amalgamated entity.
The League may redistribute this levy to the Club/Clubs who have been financially disadvantaged by the forfeit. (That is Clubs who miss a home game.)

What happened to Fund-Raiser for Cancer Council?:- Well it buggered our Call to Arms Fund-raiser, we were going to have a 47s BBQ during the Masters, with a big raffle for the Cancer Council - raised SFA, lost on raffle prizes, look stupid to guys who donated.

No Masters Aug1 - 47s Still ON:- RIGIN-RAGIN-FRAZAMATAZ! Them Varmint Cowboys aint-a-comin' this season! Seems atravellin' weighs a bit heavy on their LaDeDah Carrum Lakeys Lifestyle. Violins please!
So no Game for the Masters, No Goals for agettin', No Votes for aFrendo, No Home Game from 20June to next season,
and worst of all....
bugger all people gunna turn up for our Call to Arms Fundraiser
We have a serious problem for Sunday's Masters game. - NO OPPOSITION! Brunswick Masters are due to host Carrum – however, we have confirmed that Carrum will NOT field a team to play us on Sunday.
Brunswick Over47s host Werribee at 11am this Sunday. - This will go ahead as normal at the old Brunswick VFA ground, Gillon Res, cnr Pearson & Victoria Sts Brunswick. 11am start, be there by 10:15
See lists below.
A few options to get our Masters players a game....
With training being so poorly attended, we cannot be certain of our own numbers for Sunday’s game.
Option 1 Invite Eastern Masters who have a bye, and their Supers play at North Coburg - investigated, but Eastern sez not enough notice.
Option 2 Get as many Masters as we can to play a SCRATCH MATCH. Find social players to come along and get an intro to our club. This buggers up the O47s numbers, though, and worst of all - short notice, and atrocious weather forecast scuttles that idea.
Option 3 help out Sth Yarra. They are really struggling for numbers playing Masters against Northern District at 12:45. Venue is Northern Districts, The Lakes Boulevard, Mill Park Lakes, in South Morang, Melways Map183 B6. Though South Morang is a long way away (see attached map) and may be a disincentive to a some - Ruby is keen on option 3, probably helped by his living up north and can get some mates involved. It would be good for us to send a united contingent andmake a good game of it.
Also, Marcellin have a spot or two in the Div1 Superules (O35s) against Carrum. Ratty has played 2 or 3 games with Marcellin
** O47s can consolidate with Stan, Will, Kanna, Rog and Ben if they want.
It’s a pity to lose the home game, and the Cancer Council Fund-raiser game at that. (Though not playing Carrum might be a blessing injury-wise)
Some guys can play for SthYarra but it’s best that Masters save a big effort for the final game against Footscray.
O47s will have to hold the fort. If you don't play, come along and support them.

Merciless:- No Cowboys late-tackle, iron-out, rib-charge or shoulder-slam?
No hospital visits picking up team-mates, neither? I miss the nurses!
We were starting to work them out: delegating a few of the tougher blokes to block Cowboy Front-Rowers zeroing-in on our ball-getters was paying dividends. oh-well
I miss the bruises...

Craig Gamble:- Hi ya Ming
Great to hear from you and Go Wickas.
Am greatly disappointed that I cant make this weekends match, close to home, have been training a bit and all and would actually be there if I could.
I ran into Mad Mick today, he tells me he's given it up recently too, tho he also tells me he'll be there tomorrow with his boots in the car (as I would have too)
Have a great game, regards to all the lads.
I hope all are well and that life is good, thanks for keeping me posted with all the club news and developments. Keep me on the list as I still miss the club and reckon I'll come back for a run.
What are the jumpers you are selling?
Cheers and Go Brunswick. - Craig

Cookie:- Spent the weekend and early part of the week in Perth. Should be right for our arch enemy Essendon. From memory we are still yet to beat this mob! Junior & Senior footy should be FUN! There is no doubt it is more fun to win and with our natural competitive natures all are trying to do our best and thus trying to win.
For those that played a lot of footy we have had our time playing 'serious' for stakes footy. I am now enjoying playing not so serious footy where we can have a laugh aand enjoy the comraderie. Congrats. to Doley who has managed to keep the team's competitve juices alive, while respectfully acknowldging everyones contribution on game day. We play to win, with smiles on our faces.....!!!

Anthony Godfrey:- I must admit i had visions of past glory when i was kicking the ball at arden street before christmas. the old body broke down before the first game but with care i carried the hammy through my first game against glenorden, the opposition annoyed me as it took the game seriously but the fun before, during and after took me to that happy place that happy gilmore yearned for. two weeks later [16 may] i was ready for more. if i thought one mob were bad they were saints compared to the next. .... again some blokes who took it far too seriuosly. anyway the big ruckman fixed me up in the frirst quarter by coming down on my shoulder as i was rising from acrouched position. i felt the sting and played on. the hammy went again but i survived until half time. ratty helped me get my jumper off but i couldn't lift my right arm to get it back on. game over. went to the physio twice before an xray was taken. result a fracture of the greater tuberosity. didn't bother with the mri. saw the surgeon on 2 june. he looked at the xrays and was unamazed. he looked at the report, did a double take, looked at the xray again and booked me in for surgery at vimy house kew on 17 june. a month of pain before the fix. the surgery involved four wire anchors and a rotator cuff repair. the tendon was hanging on by a thread. i was now in serious pain. the pain eased and i had a post-op appointment today. another four weeks of doing nothing and an appointment for 3 august. arm in a sling, no driving and no work [it does have an upside]. i'm not whinging or trying to scare blokes away. i'm spewing i can't play. i'll be back again but its a sore point with my wife at the moment so it will require careful planning and execution. if i can't play again then 2 games of footy have reminded me of how much fun you can have playing footy. the shoulder is just a bit of collateral damage.
ps. on the day of the game i had an interesting pre-game discussion with chris. playing footy again helped you re-discover all the bits of your body that had been dormant for years. you were right chris. i'd never heard of the greater tuberosity.

Ming:- Sounds most uncomfortable Anthony. I hope it mends well and soon. From what I read, the ligament damage is the worst part and other soft tissue problems occur too.
BTW the jumper you ordered has finally arrived. I'll get it to you soon.

TIGER:- AFTERNOON LADS
If you read between the lines of Ming's email we're in a bit of trouble with numbers this season. There are heaps of reasons but what we need to stress at this point is that there is no stress playing at Brunswick this year. Coaches Kanna and Ruby are pushing the fun side of the game mostly because that's where we are at as a club. The 47s walked off the picturesque Heidelberg Park on Sunday with big smiles, despite being well beaten. And the story was the same for the 40s. This may have been due to some pretty hilarious stuff on the field; Ruby breaking the tackle of four men, then kicking a beautiful 40 metre drop punt - the wrong way. Stan's face in the rooms at half time when told he was going into the ruck. The ease of Billy's two step goals in the first half. Big Will's tap work. Critter's goal in the first quarter. All we need is more of the old faces to come down and have a kick again. Due to numbers you'll get a full game, most probably in the position you want. And once you get into the jumper again you'll be surprised how much you missed it. So for those blokes who haven't been around for a few weeks, it's no drama. Come and have a run and a laugh and and with a bit of luck the score will look after itself.
Rightio then

Ming:- Apologies for sounding grumpy - I played a shocker, though Tiger is right the spirit was magnificent.
All the blokes listed unavailable or injured shown below in the selection lists have actually explained to me individually.
Also, though I've listed MadMick as Rain affected (he and I always have a bit of fun with each other), he's actually called it quits with the chest-pain scare he had. He had been spending 2 hours each way on the train from Werribee - there's great spirit!
It's just that when I look at the tally of about 40% injured it seems we have a problem to fix. More attendance at training, (not necessarily harder training) will the best answer - but how do we enthuse people when numbers are down?
Add a few more unavaliable with family birthdays, weddings, business or interstate trips etc and I start to worry about the few blokes left burning themselves out.

Rnd 6 Report:- NOBSP Brunswick Masters R6 - Jul 4
In the 47s Diamond Valley have always been a power team and this week was no different, though we played brilliantly in the first quarter through very strong play by Dom Perone and Tim Dolan for 2 goals which should have been more. Good games by Will Glenn and Ben Curulli saw us with plenty of the ball but we found the Valley defenders on the chest time and time again, and with their one man advantage we were chasing them to the other end as soon as we blundered. Brunswick 4.0 lost to Diamond Valley 21.11 (and 6 of those points were bonuses from supergoals)
School holidays will be the end of us, heaps of blokes unavailable, others injured and Marcellin in the same boat means no 47s from them. Good thing this Footy for Fun has the Even-Up rule and Diamond Valley helped us out to make a game of it. However, one man short and no rest for our blokes, as well as half a dozen 47s doubling-up and the Valley helpers goofing-off meant we cracked open by half time. Brilliant game by first gamer Jamie Bugeja, backed up with strong play by Will Glenn, Steve Kannegiesser, Ruby Kaadan saw us manage 7.6 to Diamond Valley's 20.12.
Plenty of our blokes deserve a mention, sorry if I missed notble performances, but I wasn't in a great position to differentiate the two games, stuck up the quiet end with burnt-out legs.MUDLARK OF THE WEEK: This week we cannot overlook RATTY, played 2 and a half games. 47s, 40s and then a half for Marcellin in the ruck. That's a 46yo playing ruck in the top level of O-35 comp in the country.
A standout effort gets votes from the Footy Tarts (we'll play with anyone) in the MADLARK of the year competition | Next game away to Essendon (back at Cole Res) on July 18
