50s game OFF this week. - Beacy50s pull out.
Hi all. Unfortunately it seems that Beaconsfield have withdrawn their 50s team from the comp. So we don’t have a game this Sunday!! Very disappointing. Since you are now free, why not support your Mudlarks team-mates in their games against Box Hill? That’s what I will be doing. 45s game against Box Hill is at 12:45 at Elgar Park, and then the 35s play at 2:45. Cheers, Kev

Jim Button:- Hi Brunswick over 50s,
Re footy on Sunday, I spoke to the secretary of Box Hill North about the possibility of playing a game on their ground before our 45s kick off at 12.45. He didn't know but said he could ask at his club's training tonight.
Would people be interested in that -- at say 11 if the ground was free? We'd need at least 20 players to make it worthwhile. We could offer a run to any Box Hill players as well.
Let me know James.Button@gmail.com if there's interest, and I'll get back to him. - Jim

BART is DRCRANKYS - -
The volunteer bike program that's wheely good for kids.
SEE FULL ARTICLE in TheAge By Carolyn Webb 4 March 2018

Smile says it all: Abdul Popoola masters a donated bike, his first, with help from Bart Sbeghen, co-founder of Dr Cranky's Bikes for Kids, at Clayton North Primary School.
Abdul Popoola is nine years old and had never ridden a bicycle. But his life changed in an instant when he got his own bike - for free.
"Cool" and "awesome" was the verdict from Abdul as he checked out his smart red and black BMX Ultrasonic.
He said "basically all" his friends had bikes. And now he did, too. At first he wobbled all over the place, but was soon zipping around the Clayton North Primary schoolyard, laughing at the freedom of it all.
Such moments make it all worthwhile for Bart Sbeghen, founder of Dr Cranky’s Bikes for Kids, a volunteer-run program that fixes and gives out donated bicycles to primary school students.
"Did you see the look on his face?" Mr Sbeghen said. "He got the balance and his face just lit up."
Abdul's father, Abdulwahid Popoola, said the boy had begged him for a bike, but with his wife studying and him not
working, they couldn’t afford one. "And he’s here today, with a bike, just for free," Mr Popoola said. "He’s excited, and I’m excited, too. He’s a restless type of person. It keeps him fit, and he can cycle to school. I’m on top of the world right now."
Mr Sbeghen, a father of three, started Dr Cranky’s with fellow Dad Peter Hormann at Flemington Primary School. At the time, Mr Sbeghen was an advocate at Bicycle Network.
In 2014, while picking up their kids, they would adjust bike seats and chains for other students. They set up a 'bicycle hospital' that became a hub to give out donated bikes. The program was dubbed Dr Cranky’s because some staff disliked it commandeering a bin shed.
The scheme now runs in six schools around Melbourne and one in Darwin. It has helped more than 860 kids and gifted 543 bicycles. Kinder kids are offered smaller bikes and secondary students drop by to help with
repairs. Mr Sbeghen, now a stay-at-home dad, spends about four afternoons a week, unpaid, running Dr Cranky’s clinics, helped by parent volunteers.
PE teacher Billy Atkin, who helps run the scheme at Clayton North once a fortnight, said Mr Sbeghen’s work was "fantastic".
"Obviously, he’s got his heart in it. He’s determined to make a difference and that’s what he’s doing. It’s given kids independence so they can ride to school, and they can ride to their friends’ houses on the weekends or after school."
Mr Sbeghen says daily exercise "is the answer to our obesity crisis" and bikes are an alternative to organised sport.
"You see kids out just having adventures, they don’t even know they’re being healthy, they’re just having fun."
Schools wanting their own Dr Cranky’s, and parent volunteers, can go to the website, drcrankys.com.au

2018Mudlarks Running Group - 2018 Preseason Fitness Running Sat mornings.
If you missed the 13th, you can get into your own program any day of the week. Just follow Paws' schedule and you can at least be on track, if a little behind the fitness guru.
(Even Old Merciless bung knees and back will be doing it at a quick walking pace, about 10min/km)
Brendan Pawsey has designed a bespoke little 6 session running/fitness program to increase our fitness and speed.
Meet in Royal Parade, north of Carlton footy ground at the “Sports Pavilion” at 8:25am for 8:30 start Sat Jan 13.
If you can’t make it, here is the 6 session program to follow at your convenience:

Ray:- In very trying conditions (28dgC at 8:00am and a strong northerly blowing) eight Mudlarks turned up for their time-trial.
Pawsey and Chris Reynolds were apologies. Phantom still injured presumably, and James Button ran his time-trial on Wednesday evening in 15m42s.
Bart stormed in fastest in 13:31, there was a group close together Bobby 15:07, me 15:10, Halo 15:12, Rohan 15:14 – FYI other than mine, these are recollections. So, perhaps we should make contact with the guys and get their exact times?
Thanks, Ray

2017 AWARD WINNERS - Hi there Mudlarks. Well those who came to our Awards/Presentation night last Friday 20 October enjoyed a great night.
Swainy was at his politically incorrect best form, John Najjar came up with the goods once again with fantastic timber trophies (specially shaped to provide perfect material for Swainy’s jokes) and Ratty worked his magic around presenting the B&F count in an entertaining and speedy format.
The Duke looked after us very well, although Ray Nardella did complain the next day that perhaps his 25th beer might have been a bit off because he felt a bit poorly.
Thanks to everyone who helped organise the night, and thanks for coming along and enjoying good times with your partners, friends and footy mates.

VALE Mick McLachlan - Brunswick MUDLARKS AFLMasters regret the passing of Player and Life Member Michael McLachlan on 6.6.2017. The Mudlarks Committee’s condolences go to Mick’s family and friends at this very sad time.
Starting in 1998 with the East Brunswick CC 3rds in 1998 through to Vets in 2004, ‘Mad’ Mick began his over35s Footy in 1999 as well as helping out with Brunswick Power AFC through the 2000s.
Mick notched up 124 games with Brunswick Mudlarks, was leading goal-kicker in 2000 and also kicked a few in rep games for Vic Metro45s in Barooga.
An absolute stalwart with off-ground duties over 20 years with the Club, Mick was a special welcoming presence helping nurture Mudlarks Masters Footy.
